Hilo, Hawai’i hosted the Symposium on the WIPCE Coolangatta Statement on Indigenous Education on March 20-23, 2024. The 3-day event will brought together indigenous education professionals from the WIPCE family to engage in discussion and revisit the following statements:

WIPCE Coolangatta Statement on Education - The statement was drafted at the 1993 WIPCE in Wollongong, Australia and ratified at the 1999 WIPCE held in Hilo, Hawai’i.

WIPCE Indigenous Youth Statement on Education - In 2014, in Honolulu, Hawai’i, an Indigenous Youth Statement on Education was created by over 100 youth from Hawai’i and the WIPCE family of nations

UNDRIP - United National Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples’ includes a statement on education which was established in 2007.
Symposium attendees reviewed these statements, updated the Coolangatta Statement on Indigenous Education, and offered a new draft for ratification at 2025 WIPCE, hosted by AUT in Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland, Aotearoa, New Zealand.
